About us

"‌When data and creativity work in harmony, wonderful things happen for your brand, your audience
and your business"

Steve Garvey, founder, Moving Image

Our story

Moving Image was born out of frustration in 2020.

Brand film, a £1bn+ corner of the UK screen industries, had no reliable way to measure whether its content actually worked.

Films were published everywhere: on intranets, exhibition stands, conference platforms, websites and social, and watched on every screen from the meeting room TV to a phone on the train. Distribution had exploded from a single 16mm channel to omnichannel, anytime, anywhere. It was chaos, and the agencies making the work struggled to prove its value. ROI was treated as too hard to solve, so the industry quietly filed it in a drawer.

We believed a solution had to be possible. Rather than trying to tame the whole fragmented landscape, we focused on what could actually be measured: public, GDPR-friendly social data, awards that recognise creative excellence, industry rankings, and private data brands could share securely. The sources were there. What was missing was anyone who knew what to do with them.

So we set out to fill the gap. As experienced brand film professionals, we turned data into a story, drawing on several data points at a time to find the narrative behind why some campaigns work and others don't, and telling it in a way that speaks to creatives and analysts alike. Alongside it we built the Benchmark, our reference dataset for UK brand communications, which has tracked 100 UK brands across every post and content type since January 2021

What we do

Today, Moving Image is an independent research consultancy that blends data and creativity. That same thinking powers everything we do: Data Suite, our measurement platform for brand communications; the UK Top 50 production rankings; and Podium, our award-entry service with a 77% shortlisting rate. We help brands, agencies and production companies turn evidence into better work.
